Promotion of Holding International Conferences (MICE)* in Hokkaido

The “New Hokkaido Comprehensive Development Plan that will lead the Era of the Global Environment,”( Cabinet Decision, July 4 , 2008)sets “A Northern Base Shining in Asia—Realization of Open, Competitive Hokkaido” as one of its strategic goals, and promotes invitation of international conferences and events held on an international scale, utilizing the holding of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, etc.  Concerning with promoting invitation of international conferences (MICE) after Hokkaido Toyako Summit、the government will provide necessary support in response to strengthening efforts by Hokkaido from the viewpoint of steadily promoting the new Hokkaido comprehensive development plan, and ”Promotion of Holding International Conferences (MICE)* in Hokkaido” was approved at the Cabinet meeting on July 4, 2008. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will mainly promotes invitation of international conferences (MICE)* held in Hokkaido.

 1. The “New Hokkaido Comprehensive Development Plan that will lead
    the Era of the Global Environment,” endorsed by the Cabinet today,
    sets “A Northern Base Shining in Asia—Realization of Open, 
    Competitive Hokkaido” as one of its strategic goals, and promotes
    invitation of international conferences (MICE)* held on an international
    scale, utilizing the holding of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, etc.
     With the holding of the summit, Hokkaido is strengthening efforts to 
    invite international conferences (MICE)* which have been underway, and
    the government will provide necessary support in response to
    strengthening efforts by Hokkaido from the viewpoint of steadily
    promoting the new Hokkaido comprehensive development plan. As for
    international conferences held in Hokkaido by private sectors, the
    government will ask for the private sector’s cooperation as well.

 2. In order to provide the above-mentioned necessary support, the 
   government will set up a liaison conference of the ministries and
   agencies make necessary adjustments, and its general affairs will be
   conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and 
   Tourism.
