Japan Air Navigation Service (JANS) started operation of new flight data processing system (FACE)

JANS started operation of new flight data processing system named ‘Flight-object Administration Center system’ (FACE).  The FACE system is provided by NEC Corporation.
The FACE system replaces the conventional flight data processing system. The FACE system can have the function to manage FO (Flight Object) which is described XML format, and can also process the conventional flight plan format simultaneously.
The FACE system is installed in Fukuoka, it has backup system in Tokyo supposing the disaster.
JANS has a plan to update all ATC systems to compatible with the ‘Flight Object’ (FO) over five years. The FACE system is essential core of Japanese next-generation ATC systems.

Hitoshi ISHIZAKI, Director General of JANS, said:
”The activation of the FACE system, which will be the foundation of future technology, makes a great deal of sense to us.  I am convinced that the FACE will contribute to the tremendous demands of traffic not only in Fukuoka FIR but also in Asian Pacific region.”

NEC Corporation delivers airport surveillance radar apparatus, Oceanic ATC system, AMHS, and radio navigation system in Japan.

“This is an integrated control information processing system developed to support air safety of Japan and meet the demands of increasing air traffic.
After 5 years of development and migration, today we successfully accomplished the first phase implementation of Flight Object Administration Center System (FACE).
With all parties involved in air traffic control,  NEC will continue to fulfill our responsibility with providing the world a safe and comfortable sky as a global leading ICT company”, Yutaka UKEGAWA, Senior Vice President, General Manager, Transportation and City Infrastructure Division, NEC Corporation said.
