JANS Concluded a Manufacturing Agreement of DLCS with NEC Corporation

・JANS concluded a manufacturing agreement of DLCS – Type 17 (Data Link Center Sortation equipment) with NEC Corporation.

DLCS is in operation as a gateway equipment of ATS units in the data link. DLCS connects ATS units to a number of private communication service providers and exchanges the necessary information with the necessary place at the right timing, thereby contributing to reduction of oceanic separation and reduction of workload of pilots and air traffic controllers. The upgraded DLCS will be equipped with improved PBCS monitoring function, which clearly and easily identify the cause of degrading quality on the network, to realize further improvement of reliability and availability for data link. This system is scheduled to start its operation around 2020.

・Comments by Mr. Iijima, Director General of Civil Aviation Bureau
“Various information services in Fukuoka FIR, such as oceanic control communication (CPDLC and ADS-C), departure clearance (DCL), and terminal and aeronautical information (ATIS/AEIS) have been provided through the voice communication system, but which is being replaced with the data link communication, an emerging mainstream of the control communication. Also, in order to realize an efficient route operation by DARP that enables reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions through shortening the flight distance, and looking ahead, Trajectory-based Operations as well, it is essential to communicate an enormous amount of complicated information such as latitude/longitude information by the data link. In this regard, we would like to steadily introduce DLCS as the core equipment from now on.”

・Comments by Mr. Iimori, General Manager of Radio Application, Guidance and Electro Optics Division, NEC Corporation
“We are very grateful to have an opportunity to participate in building up a new aviation communication infrastructure through this order entry of DLCS – Type 17. We believe that it is absolutely necessary to upgrade the data link communication utilizing satellites in order to meet the surging aviation demand in recent years. We are determined to provide you with the best solution to realize safe, secure and efficient aircraft operation by fully employing our accumulated know-how in establishing satellite systems and air traffic control systems for many years.”

JANS plans to further introduce a Continental CPDLC in Fukuoka FIR with an aim to utilize the data link furthermore.

DLCS (Data Link Center Sortation equipment)

Nowadays, Data Link is used in data communication for air traffic control between air traffic controller and pilot as an essential means in terms of reduction of workload of both pilot and controller through reduction of separation and prevention of human errors. DLCS is an equipment to connect the equipment of Civil Aviation Bureau to a number of private communication service providers and to exchange the necessary information with the necessary place at the right timing with the aim to realize the air traffic control utilizing Data Link. Global standard communication performance will be secured when applied to air traffic control.
