On 17 October 2016, Mr. Keiichi Ishii, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, received a courtesy visit from H.E. Mr. U Thant Sin Maung, Minister for Transport and Communications of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
 
Minister Mr. Ishii and Mr. Thant Sin Maung reached an agreement on the promotion of a wide range of cooperation in the fields of transport sectors including railway, ports and harbors, maritime affairs, aviation, automobile and logistics.
 
After the meeting, they signed a Memorandum on Cooperation (MoC) in the fields of transport sectors between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar.
