■ Summary
・ In order to decarbonize the aviation sector, it is important to promote the production and supply of SAF.
However, the supply of used cooking oil, currently major SAF feedstock, is so limited that securing wide
    variety of feedstocks is crucial.
・ For the request from a Japanese fuel supplier, "Non-standard Coconuts" was proposed from JCAB to ICAO
and, after the discussions and the reviews, approved as a new SAF feedstock in the 231st ICAO Council
    meeting in March 2024.
・ "Non-standard Coconuts" is inedible coconuts due to cracking, mold, etc., which occur at a certain rate
in harvesting, and most of them are disposed now. “Non-standard Coconuts” does not compete with edible
foods and do not require new farms, then, they are evaluated as their environmental impact is little.
・ JCAB will continue to work on the diversification of SAF feedstocks through ICAO-CORSIA and contribute
to the decarbonization of the aviation sector.

JCAB activities for registration in ICAO
・ As part of the activities of the "SAF Certification Task Group" established under the "Public-Private Council
to Promote the Introduction of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)" in Japan, JCAB started discussing with ICAO
in July 2022. After the discussions and the reviews with the ICAO Fuel Task Group, etc., “Non-standard
Coconuts” was approved and included in ICAO document*4 by the 231st ICAO Council in March 2024.
Since ICAO-CORSIA started at 2019, this is the first case that a new SAF feedstock was included in the
    Positive List.
