Minister Ohta visited Mongolia on April 27 and 28, and had meetings with Government leaders. The outline of the visit is as follows.
i) Prime Minister Altankhuyag
Minister Ohta appreciated the opportunity to meet various ministers to discuss the partnership between the two countries, especially concerning the progress of important infrastructure projects mentioned in the Mid-term Action Plan, and expressed his hope to contribute to the further development of Mongolia.
Prime Minister Altankhuyag was pleased with the progress of the Action Plan, and expected to cooperate with Japan in the fields of transportation, urban development, and tourism. In particular, he explained that Mongolia has set a target to increase the number of annual foreign tourists from the current 300,000 to 1 million, and was looking forward to receiving advice about how to attract more Japanese tourists to Mongolia.

ii) Mr. Gansukh, Minister for Roads and Transportation
Minister Ohta expressed that he would like to contribute to the growth of the Mongolian economy through the development of high quality infrastructure, while Minister Gansukh expressed his hope to introduce Japanese technology and experience to projects such as the New Ulaanbaatar International Airport, the Ulaanbaatar Metro and the Ajilchin Flyover. They also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to enhance the framework for cooperation.
In addition, MLIT and Japanese companies jointly demonstrated the ability and eagerness to manage the New Ulaanbaatar International Airport.

iii) Mr. Bayarsaikhan, Minister of Construction and Urban Development
Minister Ohta explained the importance of planned construction of high quality infrastructure along with urban development. Minister Bayarsaikhan expected the assistance of MLIT in human resource development including facilitating Mongolian students majoring in engineering. They agreed to cooperate in the fields of urban redevelopment, renewal of sewage systems, and development of construction standards. They also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to enhance the framework for cooperation.

iv) Ms. Oyungerel, Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism
Minister Ohta expressed that he would like to advance mutual cooperation between stakeholders from both countries and to promote exchange in the fields of culture, sports and tourism. Minister Oyungerel agreed with him and expects to enter into a dialogue on common challenges such as the protection of landscape.

v) Dr. Oyun, Minister for Environment and Green Development
Minister Ohta emphasized the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection in Mongolia. Minister Oyun stated the importance of environmental point of view in the development of infrastructure such as introducing the idea of eco-building when constructing school buildings.

On April 27 Minister Ohta participated in a meeting concerning the management contract for New Ulaanbaatar International Airport with related Japanese companies and the Deputy Minister for Roads and Transport. He also participated in a site visit of the airport under construction.
