G7 Transport Minister’s Meeting in Karuizawa, Nagano to be held

The G7 Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Karuizawa, Nagano will be held in the town of Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, on September 23 (Fri) - 25 (Sun), 2016, as one of the G7 Ise-Shima Summit-related Minister-level Meetings, for which Japan is the host country. Following the first G7 Transport Ministers’ Meeting held in Germany last September, this year’s meeting is the second G7 Transport Minister’s Meeting and will focus on two critical issues of urgent priority, “Basic strategy for developing new transport infrastructure and renovating aging and deteriorated transport infrastructure” and “Development and widespread utilization of advanced technology for automobile and road.” A joint declaration of G7 transport ministers will be presented to launch the concerted direction of transport policies by G7 countries.

1. Dates: September 23 (Fri) - 25 (Sun), 2016
2. Venue: Karuizawa Prince Hotel, Karuizawa, Kitasaku, Nagano Pref.
3. Agenda: (a) Basic strategy for developing new transport infrastructure and renovating aging and deteriorated transport infrastructure
(b) Development and widespread utilization of advanced technology for automobile and road: from automated and connected driving to Intelligent Transport System (ITS), and environmentally friendly Next Generation vehicle (fuel cell vehicle, electric vehicle, etc.)
4. Participants: Japan, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, UK, US, EU
5. Schedule (planned):
September 23 (Fri)        Welcome dinner (hosted jointly by the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Land and Tourism (MLIT) and the local government)
September 24 (Sat)   Opening session; Photo session/Commemorative tree planting; Special session with private sector on automated driving; Luncheon hosted by the Minister of MLIT; Session 1 “Basic strategy for developing new transport infrastructure and renovating aging and deteriorated transport infrastructure” and Session 2 “Development and widespread utilization of advanced technology for automobile and road”: Presidency press conference: Dinner hosted by the Minister of MLIT
* Bilateral meetings by participating countries are expected to be held on September 23 (Fri) or 25 (Sun).
 
6. Prior press accreditation:
Media personnel who wish to enter the convention premises to cover the meeting are required to apply for prior press registration by August 23 (Tues) (Japan Time).
