Introduction to port and coast administration
Introduction to coastal measures

Upgrades of protection functions against tsunami, storm surge, etc.
To steadily implement tsunami and storm surge countermeasures and anti-erosion measures, the bureau upgrades urban and regional coast protection functions and actively promotes the creation of safe coasts.
To safeguard lives and property from tsunami in areas with a high probability of being struck by a tidal wave, the bureau is moving ahead with construction of tsunami protection stations, which utilize IT to perform activities such as integrated monitoring and controlling of facilities such as sluices and collection and dissemination of earthquake and tsunami information, and construction of tsunami protection breakwaters. In addition, as a new system the bureau is establishing storm surge protection stations, to contribute to the creation of crisis management organizations in regions where storm surge is a concern.

The bureau is emphatically using the "integrated shore protection system" to construct furusato coastal maintenance works, which are tenaciously strong against coastal disasters, offer excellent facility durability and are superior from other aspects including coast access. Under this system, coastal protection facilities such as revetments, sandy beaches and offshore breakwaters are arranged together in a protective configuration.
