Karatsu Port(area:KYUSHU/SAGA)

Cities Spring Summer Autumn

The Karatsu Port, known as Kara-no-Tsu (Port leading to China) from old times, is a quiet port facing the Genkai Sea and it has flourished as a trading hub with the continent. The port was developed as a shipping port for coal from the Meiji period, and foreign trade was also active in the Taisho period. In the eastern part of the port, which forms a section of the Genkai Quasi-National Park, you can find Niji-no-matsubara and Karatsu Castle, and witness a lot of beachgoers bustle around the sand from Higashi-no-hama to Nishi-no-hama. The adjoining green spaces around the pier of Iki Ferry, which has been in service since April 2007, were developed simultaneously with the port. To create a pleasant port space with high quality amenities, its immediate area is currently being developed to serve as a place for logistics, production and recreation.
