Acknowledged as one of the national intangible cultural assets in Japan, the Kanto Festival in Akita City is one of the three major summer festivals in the Tohoku (northeast) region, and has been held to pray for rich harvest for approximately 270 years.  Decorated with many lanterns which is regarded as straw rice bags, long bamboo poles is also called Kanto, and Kanto poles swaying in the summer night look like rice field.  It has been said that devoting oneself daily and sense of balance is needed to learn the technique to handle long and heavy Kanto poles with complete control and to become a Kanto master.  In the Kanto Festival, please enjoy the inherited Kanto technique.

"Tenku-no-Fuyajo" is a festival passed down from the Edo period (1603?1868) featuring castle-shaped gigantic lanterns topped with "shachi" decorations parading through the city to the music of traditional flutes and taiko drums. The largest lantern in 2013 was measured 17.6 meters tall. An even larger one stands 24.1 meters tall has started to parade since 2014.

Osorezan (Volcano) founded in 862 by a great teacher Jikaku is known as one of the Japanese three greatest sacred mountains with Mt. Hiei-zan and Mt. Koya-san. With smelling of Sulfur and a contrast between a desolate rocky ground and white sandy beach of Usoriyama Lake's is very impressive. Many worshipers are visiting in every year, and there will be very busy on the time of the Big Festival in July and the Autumn Festival in October.

KANTO

Diamond Fuji is the name given to the spectacle of nature in which the sun appears either to rise or set into the summit of Mt. Fuji, and shines like a diamond. In Tateyama the sight can be seen twice each year, in May and July, when the setting sun is absorbed into Mt. Fuji across the sea. The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a world famous alpine sightseeing route which goes through Toyama’s 3,000-meter high Northern Japan Alps. CHUBU

Miho-no-Matsubara, a coastal pine tree grove, was registered as a one of the constituent properties of the Fujisan (Mount Fuji) UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2013. The beautiful amalgamation of the green pines, the white waves crashing against the sand, and the blue of the ocean is sure to leave an impression on all who view it. The area also features Miho Shrine and the Hagoromo-no-Matsu (pine tree of the angel’s robe), where a local legend holds that a celestial maiden descended from heaven.

This is a chalky foreign style light house that was built by an English engineer in 1874. It is open to the public. If you go up the light house , you can get the whole view of Pacific Ocean and the horizon. When it is nice weather, you can look out over Izu Islands, Mt.Fuji, Minami Alpus and Sea of Enshu.

KINKI

With a mound length of 485 m, this mounded tomb is one of the world's three largest burial mounds, along with the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor in China. This is the first facility in Japan to exhibit a real submarine ("The Akishio"). Hagi Castle Town is designated a National Historical Site, with streets laid out in a grid containing rows of samurai residences and traditional townhouses. The streets remain unchanged, maintainig the same appearance as in days long past. Izumo Taisha, also known as the Grand Shrine, is dedicated to the matchmaking deity Okuninushi. People from all over the world visit the shrine to pay their respects. The shrine's current main hall (built in 1744) stands 24 meters tall, and it is Japan’s oldest shrine as well a major symbol of Shinto architecture. It is designated as one of the country's National Treasures, and is surrounded by several auxiliary shrines which are listed as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Shinmon Doori, the road leading to the shrine, is a lively area lined with souvenir shops and restaurants.

The local performing art of the Iwami region of western Shimane, it was designated as a Japan Heritage in 2019. Hand painted masks and magnificent costumes allure the audience as the performers dance to the high tempo music. A popular performance is “Orochi” which features a battle between a fire breathing serpent and the deity Susanoo.

One of the largest towel stores in Japan selling Imabari Towel. In 2017, the store was renovated by Sato Kashiwa, a creative director. Imabari Towel LAB is next to the store. Visitors can experience the essential values of Imabari Towel which are safety, security and high quality at the LAB.
