Travel and Tourism Consumption Trend Survey, October-December 2016 (preliminary report)

This is a summary of the results of the Travel and Tourism Consumption Trend Survey of October-December 2016 (preliminary report).

1. Japanese Domestic Travel Consumption

-Japanese domestic travel expenditure was 4.9518 trillion yen, down 1.6% from the same period last year.
 
-Within the domestic travel expenditure in Japan, overnight travel was 3.7197 trillion yen, down 4.6% from the same period last year, and day-trip travel was 1.2321 trillion yen, an increase of 8.7% compared with the same period last year.

2. Number of Japanese Travelers in Japan

-The total number of Japanese domestic travelers was 146.38 million (an increase of 1.7% from the same period last year); among which, 74.89 million people took overnight trips (an increase of 0.6% from the same period last year) and 71.5 million people took day trips (2.9% increase from the same period last year).
