Annual Value for 2017 (preliminary report)

Travel expenditure by international visitors to Japan was 4.4161 trillion yen (an increase of 17.8% from the previous year), the highest annual value ever. All 4 quarters for 2017 had the highest values ever.
 
Travel expenditure per international visitor to Japan (preliminary report) was 153,921 yen (a 1.3% increase from the previous year).
 

October-December Quarter of 2017 (preliminary report)

Travel expenditure by international visitors to Japan was 1.1400 trillion yen (an increase of 27.8% from the same quarter the previous year), and the highest ever for the October-December quarter.
 
Travel expenditure per international visitor to Japan for the October-December quarter (preliminary report) was 152,119 yen (a 3.4% increase from the same quarter of the previous year).
 

Outline of the Results of the Survey on Consumption Trends of International Visitors to Japan                                           1. Overall Travel Expenditure of International Visitors to Japan

Annual Value for 2017 (preliminary report) 
--Overall travel expenditure of international visitors to Japan in 2017 (preliminary report) was estimated at 4.4161 trillion yen, a 17.8% increase from the previous year (3.7476 trillion yen),
 
--Looking at travel expenditure by country and region: China was the highest at 1.6946 trillion yen (38.4% of the total). Next was Taiwan at 574.4 billion yen (13.0%), then South Korea at 512.6 billion yen (11.6%), Hong Kong at 341.5 billion yen (7.7%), and the United States at 250.3 billion yen (5.7%). These five countries accounted for 76.4% of the total.
 

--Overall travel expenditure of international visitors to Japan for the October-December quarter of 2017 (preliminary report) was estimated at 1.1400 trillion yen, a 27.8% increase from the same quarter of the previous year (892.2 billion yen).
--Looking at travel expenditure by country and region: China was the highest at 411.4 billion yen (36.1% of the total). Next was South Korea at 140.9 billion yen (12.4%), then Taiwan at 138.4 billion yen (12.1%), Hong Kong at 82.2 billion yen (7.2%), and the United States at 65.6 billion yen (5.8%). These five countries accounted for 73.5% of the total.

Annual Value for 2017 (preliminary report)
--The 2017 travel expenditure per international visitor to Japan (preliminary report) was estimated at 153,921 yen, an increase of 1.3% from the previous year (155,896 yen).
 
--Looking at travel expenditure by country and region, China was the highest at 230,000 yen, followed by Australia at 226,000 yen and then the U.K. at 215,000 yen.
 
October-December Quarter of 2017 (preliminary report)
--The travel expenditure per international visitor to Japan for the October-December quarter of 2017 (preliminary report) was estimated at 152,119 yen, an increase of 3.4% from the same quarter of the previous year (147,174 yen).
