--Overall travel expenditure of international visitors to Japan during the January-March quarter of 2018 was calculated at 1.1343 trillion yen (preliminary), a 17.2% increase from the same quarter of the previous year (968.0 billion yen).
--Looking at travel expenditure by country and region: China was the highest at 439.1 billion yen (38.7% of the total). Taiwan was next at 149.5 billion yen (13.2%), then South Korea at 147.6 billion yen (13.0%), Hong Kong at 81.9 billion yen (7.2%) and the United States at 54.7 billion yen (4.8%). These five countries accounted for 76.9% of the total.
--Travel expenditure per international visitor to Japan was 148,891 yen. Compared to the same period from the previous year (148,070 yen), this showed an increase of 0.6%.
--Looking at per person travel expenditure by country and region: Australia was the highest at 251,000 yen, next was Viet Nam (227,000) and then China (226,000 yen).
