INTERNATIONAL TOURISM SYMPOSIUM ON IYSTD 2017

  • Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), Okayama City and Mie Prefecture, in cooperation with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), jointly held the International Tourism Symposium on IYSTD 2017 in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture (from October 15 to 17) and in Toba City, Mie Prefecture (from October 17 to 19), as detailed below.
 
  • This year has been designated as the "International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development" by the United Nations, and each country is expected to promote understanding of the roles and importance of tourism. The two symposiums aim to share information about the current situation and best practice regarding tourism both in Japan and other countries, and contribute to the development of the participating countries' tourism policies.

[Okayama Symposium] October 15 (Sun) to October 17 (Tue), 2017
1. International Tourism Symposium on IYSTD 2017 (Venue: Okayama Convention Center)
- Date: October 16 (Mon), 2017
- Theme: "Toward a Tourism Model through the Involvement of Heritage, Nature, and People"
- Participants: 275 persons from 17 countries (Participants from overseas: 25 persons including foreign speakers, ASEAN Plus Three Youth participants, JICA trainees, etc.)
 
2. Others (Receptions, Technical visits)
- Welcome reception held on October 15 hosted by Okayama City (Venue: Okayama Korakuen)
- Welcome reception held on October 16 hosted by JTA (Venue: Okayama Castle)
- Technical visits held on October 16 and 17, and the visits carried out to facilities related to the symposium theme (Locations: Okayama Castle, Okayama Korakuen, Sogenji Temple, Hayashibara Museum of Art, Former Uchisange Elementary School, etc.)

[Mie Symposium] October 17 (Tue) to October 19 (Thu), 2017
1. International Tourism Symposium on IYSTD 2017 (Venue: Toba Hotel International)
- Date: October 18 (Wed), 2017
- Theme: "Women's Roles in the Sustainable Tourism for Development"
- Participants: 139 persons from 13 countries (Participants from overseas: 31 persons including foreign speakers, ASEAN Plus Three Youth participants, ASEAN-JAPAN Centre trainees)
 
2. Others (Receptions, Technical visits)
- Welcome reception held on October 17 hosted by Toba City, Mie Prefecture (Venue: Toba Marine Terminal)
- Farewell reception held on October 18 hosted by JTA (Venue: Toba Sea-Folk Museum)
- Technical visits held on October 19, and the visits carried out to facilities related to the symposium theme (Locations: Mikimoto Pearl Island (Ama demonstration), Ise Jingu Naiku, Okage Yokocho, and Kaito Yumin Club, etc.)
