Section3 System architecture and progress standardization

System architecture development

In November 1999, the five governmental bodies concerned with ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) released "System Architecture for ITS in Japan," which can be viewed on the homepage of VERTIS (Vehicle, Road and Traffic Intelligence Society) at http://www.vertis.or.jp.
In this system architecture, opinions, including those from overseas, are incorporated.
It is expected that ITS in Japan will be efficiently constructed as an integrated system based on the system architecture, and its consistency with international standards will be maintained.

- What is the system architecture for ITS?
The system architecture for ITS is an "overall scheme of ITS" that shows the overall structure (the framework) of the system, based on the system's constituent elements and their relationships. In other words, the system architecture outlines the overall configuration of the system. It is indispensable for designing and developing a system comprising numerous elements that function as a whole.
