- ETC on-board equipment market expanding
Active entry of many companies into the field of ETC on-board equipment is creating new markets. The cumulative number of car navigation units in use exceeded 6.20 million by the end of September 2000, which has led to the development of car navigation-ETC composite on-board equipment, and the production of this type of equipment is expected to grow into a large market. In addition, growth of the DSRC service will accelerate the development of multi-functional on-board equipment and the number of vehicles fitted with such equipment is projected to exceed 50 million by 2015 (report of the Telecommunications Technology Council on 22 February 1999).
