Advanced traffic management systems have been deployed on expressways, to process traffic information smoothly so as to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow.
Various road information is collected by numerous sensors including vehicle detectors and TV cameras, and by weather surveillance equipment such as that for measuring wind direction and velocity, a road surface hygrometer, a road surface thermometer, an ultrasonic snow depth measuring device, a snowfall detector, and a rainfall sensor. Collected road data is processed at traffic control centers, and then provided to drivers through various message signs installed along the roads.
