Field trials of a service for paying public parking lot fees via ETC were carried out in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in FY 2005 and in Sapporo in FY 2006. The service is being implemented since July 2007 in Sapporo, Nagoya and Osaka. Vehicles which have been registered in advance can pass through the gates of parking lots without having to handle cash or tickets to pay the parking charges. This service frees users from having to drive near a paying machine and handle coins, thus enabling smooth entrance and exit from parking lots.
