Foreword
The word “ROAD” in Japanese expressed as “MICHI”.
Although our historical coexistence with automobiles is quite recent, the history of “MICHI” is quite long and its use as public space extends into ancient history as one of the factors fostering Japanese culture and aesthetics.
As we currently find ourselves in the 21st century, it is important to revisit our origins by applying the concept of “Road Renaissance” to contemplate what kind of road capital will improve our living, the regions, and the nation as a whole.
As the role of “MICHI” changes with that of ancient times, we will continue to promote network creation and spatial rejuvenation suitable to contemporary times.
