Japan-EU Regulatory Reform Dialog

This dialog was established in 1994 between the Japanese government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, related ministries and government offices) and the EU (European commission and the governments of affiliated countries) after Japan formulated a promotion plan for the easing of regulations. This is also a cross-sectional and high level (director-general level) framework to promote the easing of regulations in a wide range of areas by exchanging open-minded and constructive views, instead of being a restrictive framework with piled up agreements. The dialog has been continuously held. Each side submits proposals for regulatory reform for the other side and both sides discuss the modality of regulations in Japan and the EU with a view to improving the business environment. Especially in the transportation sector, we exchange views on the areas of maritime transportation and tourism.
