Japan-U.S. Economic Partnership for Growth



The Japan-U.S. Economic Partnership for Growth was agreed to for the purpose of facilitating sustainable growth through dialog between Japan and the U.S., at the Japan-U.S. summit meeting (Prime Minister Koizumi and President Bush) held in June 2001.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport participates in Sub-cabinet Economic Dialog, Private Sector/Government Commission, Regulatory Reform and Competition Policy Initiative etc, and exchanges views on issues in the transportation sector such as transport security and promotion of tourism. The Ministry works for smooth economic growth between Japan and the U.S. with a positive attitude.

›Regulatory Reform and Competition Policy Initiative


The Japanese government and the U.S. government hold a meeting between them sequentially and, based on point of view of private companies of both sides, have constructive discussions on regulation / the system of the partner country which improvement is necessary for Japan-U.S. economic growth. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport holds discussions in the air transport and the maritime transport sectors.


›Japan-U.S. Sub-cabinet Economic Dialog


Taking an unofficial and flexible formality, bilateral, regional and multilateral issues are discussed in this dialog. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport exchanges views in the transport and tourism sectors.


›Trade Forum


It was established to "play a role as an 'Early-Warning Mechanism' to promote the rapid solution of trade and trade-related issues", exchanging views on trade and trade-related issues which are raised by Japan and the U.S.. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport exchanges views in the inspection standard of small craft.


›Japan-U.S. Private Sector/Government Commission


It is to set up the opportunity for private sector representatives in Japan and the U.S. to make recommendations based on specialized knowledge to government officials of both countries.
