Spreading Japanese high technology

Background and purpose for maintaining facilities in bay areas

Background and purpose

With the economic growth of recent years, the number of containers in port terminals are drastically increasing in ASEAN regions. However, because of lacking maintenance of harbor facilities, they become old and cause some problems like decreasing the efficiency of labor. The purpose of this project is to bring Japanese harbor maintenance technology into those ASEAN countries that have maintenance problems. Then, we try to extract the problems and put together a complete solution.

Business Summary

  • Field investigation of the maintenance of harbor facilities (deterioration)
  • Extract the technical problems about harbor maintenance
  • Hold committees and go over the business solution
  • Have collaborative investigations with ASEAN countries that have a common interest in the urgent problems determined by committee
  • Schedule the workshop "Japan-ASEAN Harbor Technology Cooperation Workshop" (provisional title) at the end of 2006, and report about the collaboration project

2004

  • Field investigations in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia
  • Held "Japan-ASEAN Harbor Technology Collaborative Investigation Committee" (provisional title), and considered the areas that urgently need solutions to be dealt with
