The
Secretariat would like to report on the First Informal Advisory Meeting
held in Kyoto on November 25, 2002. This was one of the events in the
preparatory process towards the Ministerial Conference (the 3rd World Water
Forum). Around 70 experts from around 40 countries and international
organizations gathered to attend the meeting.
In
this meeting, the framework of the Ministerial Conference was outlined and basic
concepts, expected outcomes and sectorial topics to be discussed in the
Ministerial Conference were presented.
The
discussion followed and it was further understood that the follow-up of the
World Summit on Sustainable Development is really important. Also, it was well
understood that the Ministerial Conference in Kyoto would be ACTION ORIENTED.
This is because discussion on what is important towards solving water issues has
already been done many times in previous international conferences. HOW to take
ACTION should be focused in the coming Ministerial Conference.
