The
Secretariat would like to report on the
Second Informal Advisory Meeting (IAM-2) held in Tokyo on January 30-31, 2003.
Representatives from 95 countries, and 21 international and other organizations
gathered to attend the meeting. There were about 300 total participants
including members of the Japanese governement.
The issues
discussed were: (1) Outline of the Ministerial Conference, (2) Interaction with
the 3rd World Water Forum, and (3) Possible Elements of the Ministerial
Declaration.
Participants
emphasized that the Ministerial Conference should build on achievements made so
far such as the WSSD in Johannesburg and the previous World Water Forums.
As for the
Portfolio of Water Actions (PWA), it was pointed out that criteria for action
plans to be included in it should be made clear.
As for
Possible Elements of the Ministerial Declaration, participants supported
Japan’s proposal to take an action-oriented approach and emphasized the
importance of sending out a brief but strong political message.
