In October 2001, it was agreed that the "Automotive Consultative Group (ACG)" would be established as a framework whichwas independentfrom other forums. It was to take the importance of the automobile industry into onsideration with careful attention paid to fundamentals such as securing interactivityin the "Japan-U.S. Economic Partnership for Growth".
In particular, this was for the Japanese and U.S. governments to discuss issues of mutual concern and interest extensively, including global issues and trade-related issues, as well as to acknowledge sudden worldwide changes such as globalization or IT developmentin the environment surrounding the automobile and automotive parts industry.
