The 4th Japan–Bangladesh Joint PPP Platform Meeting was held(2021/02/24)

【Outline】
On 24th February, 2021, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) held the 4th Japan–Bangladesh Joint PPP Platform Meeting online, jointly with the Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA), Prime Minister’s Office, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Both sides reviewed the progress of four projects selected in the previous platform meetings and agreed on the selection of “Upgrading of Nabinagar-Manikgong-Paturia Road (N5) into Expressway Project”by the joint platform as a project led by Japanese company.

【Background】
MLIT signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Public Private Partnership Authority, Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh in June 2017 in order to cooperate the economic development of Bangladesh by mobilizing skills and experiences of Japanese private companies in infrastructure sector for PPP projects as well as to expand bussiness opportunities for Japanese companies. MLIT supports the PPP project developments such as urban redevelopment and upgrading highway by concerend organizations and companies through the govenrment to government partnership.

【Details】
In the fourh Joint Platform Meeting, Japanese and Bangladesh sides reported their progress and targets of 4 projects selected in the second platform meeting held in June, 2018. In addition, Bangladesh side proposed “Upgrading of Nabinagar-Manikgong-Paturia Road (N5) into Expressway Project” and both side selected the project for Japanese private companies’ investment. Both sides also discussed on the other proposed projects for possiblity of selection on the platform.

Prior to the Joint Platform Meeting, Mr. NOMURA Masafumi, Vice-Minister, MLIT met online with Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, Principal Secretary to the Honorable Prime Mnister, Prime Minister`s Office, Bangladesh on 22nd February, 2021. They discussed the cooperation in infrastracture and promotion of PPP projects in the platform.
