    | In Hokkaido, blessed by a rich, 
      natural landscape, various kinds of outdoor sports activities are promoted. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, positively supports 
      the improvement of sports fields as part of its road, park, river and harbor 
      project.

    |  From 1987 the Tour de Hokkaido has held full-scale bicycle 
      stage road races as an officially recognized all Japan athletic meet. From 
      1997 this meet became an official athletic meet of the International Cycling 
      Union (UCI). The Tour De Hokkaido Association is in charge of managing events 
      and developing tourist attractions, promoting the improvement of health 
      and physical stamina, and spreading and promoting cycle sports through the 
      Tour de Hokkaido. In the 19th meet held in September 2005, 15 domestic and 
      5 teams representing 5 other nations participated. In addition, our ministry 
      promotes a cycle network initiative and has developed a cycle road network 
      and rest facilities along the cycle route to promote cycling.

    |  The Auto Resort Network Initiative promoted by our ministry 
      promotes the realization of an interesting and stimulating resort life with 
      facilities for selecting optional excursions using auto camps as base. A 
      network of cooperating full-scale auto camp sites auto resorts at central 
      interchange points contribute to the realization of an enjoyable resort 
      life experience with exciting excursions by networking between auto camp 
      bases of interchange promoted by the Hokkaido Auto Resort Network Association 
      which was established in 1993 for the purpose of improving facilities improvement, 
      management guidance, study, research and advertisement, In March 2005, there 
      were 46 auto resorts throughout Hokkaido Island contributing to sightseeing 
      in Hokkaido. About 330,000 people used these auto resorts in 2004. The auto 
      resort network contributes to site tourism in Hokkaido.

 With an expansive land area and the endless blue sky as background, 
      in every area of Hokkaido Sky Sport events are held that are attracting 
      attention all over Japan.
 The Hokkaido Sky Sports Association has extensive activities. 
      It sponsors the Sky Sports Fair, promotes leadership training, safety measures, 
      and other activities.

    |  Hokkaido, blessed with grand and beautiful pastoral village 
      scenery, also has the highest production of horses in Japan. It is no wonder 
      that Hokkaido provides the best stage for hands-on horse trekking tours, 
      where one can enjoy the experience of horse-back traveling.
 The Hokkaido Uma-no-michi (horse path) Network Association was 
      established in 1997 to spread the sport and educate people about horse trekking 
      and promote exchange between urban and rural areas.
