Provision
and Management of Government Facilities |

|
Role of the Ministry
of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in the Nation's Building
and Repairing Work |
|
|
"Building and repairing"
refers to the building and repairing of buildings, and it includes the construction
of new buildings, extensions, remodeling, repair, and redecorating.
Under the provisions of the "Act concerning Construction
etc. of Government and Other Public Office Facilities," the Ministry
of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is charged with constructing the facilities
required for the performance of the work of government bodies as well as
government facilities for educational, cultural, and social welfare purposes.
The Ministry is also responsible for providing guidance with regard to maintenance,
so as to ensure that the functions of the government facilities are appropriately
maintained, and for creating and recommending technical standards to ensure
the quality of government facilities. |
Government facilities are not merely
places where government services are provided; they are also assets of the
nation's people, have roles to play as emergency centers and can contribute
to the development of towns and cities that are good places to live.
In response to these needs, the Ministry for Land, Infrastructure
and Transport plans and proposes strategies for disaster prevention, environmental
protection, social welfare, information technology, and quality assurance,
and implements these strategies in the provision and management of facilities.

|
|
As the basic policy governing the
provision and management of all government facilities, the Ministry establishes
"The Standard concerned with Location, Scale and Structure of the Government
Buildings," plans and proposes measures with regard to issues such
as disaster prevention, environmental protection, social welfare, information
technology, and quality assurance, and provides and manages facilities accordingly.
