•Enhancement of Safety Awareness
Japan has achieved a senior citizen society and as such the citizens show strong concern for the reduction in factors that threaten safety. To this end, the spry of accidents, crimes and large-scale natural disasters that have occurred recently within what was a trusted system, have enhanced the citizens' awareness of safety issues to a level never seen before.

  In comparison with these other countries, Japan ratio of unforeseen accidents resulting in death is relatively high.

Eidan Subway Hibiya Line Train Derailment and Collision Accident at Nakameguro Station

  This was a major accident which occurred in March 2000. Among the passenger there were many either killed or injured (5 deceased and 62 injured.).

Evaluation of the Decline in "Safety and Peace of Mind"

  The evaluation of the feeling of `safety and peace of mind' shows that the level is below that of 1980 due to the worsening of many factors including crime, traffic accidents and personal bankruptcy etc.
