5.Developments regarding Globalization
Globalization leads to expanded demand for international transport, and its implications go much further than the volume of transport infrastructure. With corporations' business activities now extending beyond their own national borders, international competition at city, region and national level to attract such companies has intensified, and in the transport area too there is a need to offer services that meet international standards and to improve a range of related systems based upon international trends. Delays in reacting to these needs could mean withdrawal of firms from Japan, which adversely affects Japan's economic well being.
