OSAKA WORLD TOURISM FORUM '94 HELD (November 2 - 6, 1994)


    From November 2 to 6, 1994, the "OSAKA World Tourism Forum '94" was held in Osaka. The main event was the "World Conference of Tourism Ministers", the first summit conference on tourism in the world.
    In commemoration of the opening of Kansai International Airport in September 1994, this forum was held to emphasize to the world the importance of tourism in promoting mutual understanding and friendship in the international community.
    The participants of the main event, "World Conference of Tourism Ministers", included the representatives (52 Ministers for Tourism) from a total of 101 governments and organizations: 78 countries and regions; 18 states and 5 international organizations) from all over the world. The conference adopted "Osaka Tourism Declaration", a message to the earth in the 21st century.
    In parallel with the conference the "International Tourism Seminar" was also held, in which authorities in the tourism field both in Japan and abroad participated, including Mr. Enriches Sabiniyak, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), and Mr. Dittoman, Dean of Hotel Management Department of Cornell University, the most prestigious tourism university in the world. The participants of the seminar discussed what the earth and tourism should be in the 2lst century. In addition, the "World Tourism Fiesta" was also held in which the general public could experience the pleasure of international tourism. The fiesta was popular, with more than 100,000 people participating in it.
