2010 APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting Website Established ~ For the First Meeting Held in the Old Capital Nara ~

 The APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM), where tourism ministers of member economies have a discussion, will be held in the Japanese old capital, Nara, in September 2010 under the themes of common policy issues in the region for promoting tourism in the APEC region. In addition, the working-level Tourism Working Group (TWG) will be held before the TMM.

   The APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting website has been opened now. This website provides you with various information on the meetings for the first TMM held in Japan.

(Overview of Meeting)

1.Schedule

September 19, 2010 (Sunday) ~ 20 (Monday, public holiday): Tourism Working Group Meeting (TWG)

September 21 (Tuesday): Welcome reception by the governor of Nara prefecture

September 22 (Wednesday): Welcome reception by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism

September 22 (Wednesday) ~ September 23 (Thursday, public holiday): Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM)

 

2.Venue: Nara Prefecture New Public Hall (Nara city, nickname “Big Roof”)

 

3.Participants in TMM

The Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will serve as chairman, and tourism ministers from 21 countries and regions (economies) of the APEC members will participate in the TMM.

 

4.TWG and TMM

These two meetings aim at the economic development and smooth movement of people in the APEC region through the tourism promotion. At the Tourism Ministerial Meeting, a minister-level meeting of the APEC member economies will be held on policy issues such as the promotion of tourism exchange in the APEC region.

The Nara Declaration (provisional title) will be formulated in order to strive for further unity and strengthening of activities in the tourism field of the region.
