In the G20 Osaka Leaders’ Declaration that was adopted at the G20 Osaka Summit, there were mentions of contributions through tourism to the global economic growth and inclusive and sustainable development.
In the Declaration, from the June 28 and 29 2019 Summit, tourism was mentioned as part of the article on creating a virtuous cycle of growth by addressing inequalities, which also included labor and employment, women’s empowerment, and agriculture.
In particular, it talked about how tourism is becoming an important driver of global economic growth, and that all nations will work towards maximizing the tourism sector’s contribution to inclusive and sustainable development.
At the G20 Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Kutchan, Hokkaido to be held in October 2019, we will continue to develop tourism-related discussions based on this declaration, centered around the themes of tourism contributions to SDGs, managing tourism to benefit visitors and local communities, and the role ofinnovation and digital transformation in the advancement of sustainable tourism.

24. Tourism accounts for a significant share of the world’s GDP and is expected to continue to be an important driver of global economic growth. We will work to maximize the sector’s contribution to the creation of quality jobs and entrepreneurship, especially for women and youth and in the creative industry; economic resilience and recovery; the preservation of natural resources through sustainable tourism planning and management; and the achievement of inclusive and sustainable development.
