The purpose of this Competition was to discover and foster good Japanese souvenirs in terms of design and quality through the eyes of overseas visitors by selecting the most charming souvenirs as well as to promote local brands. This event also aimed to introduce Japanese appeal to the world through souvenirs and invite more overseas visitors to Japan.
The Contest consisted of two categories, the Cool Japan category and the Traditional Japan category to bring out the attractiveness of Japan in terms of "Newest" and "Tradition." The Cool Japan category is for selecting items that take in Japanese culture and technologies with an innovative mind while the Traditional Japan category is for selecting items characteristic of Japan that immdiately attract overseas visitors.
as in previous years, prizes include the Grand Prize, the Cool Japan category (Gold, Silver, and Bronze prizes), the Traditional Japan category (Gold, Silver, and Bronze prizes), the International Prize and the Luxury Prize for items sold at 10,500 yen or higher. In addition to these, a new Reasonable Prize was added for items sold at 1,050 yen or lower.
