Print Page

Last Update : 2023/7/3

In order to support successful stays for international visitors, we are working to upgrade accommodation facilities by implementing a registration system for these facilities, as well as encouraging better availability of information on these registered hotels to international travelers.

Objective of the Act on Development of Hotels for Inbound Tourists

The Act on Development of Hotels for Inbound Tourists aims to contribute to the promotion of international tourism through better hospitality for international visitors. The act promotes a registration system for hotels and other accommodation facilities and their improvements, and also lays out measures such as encouraging improved availability of information about registered hotels, etc. to visitors.

Overview of the Act on Development of Hotels for Inbound Tourists

Hotels and Ryokan inns registered under the Act on Development of Hotels for Inbound Tourists are required to meet certain standards specified by the law to ensure a safe, comfortable stay for international visitors.

In return, registered hotels and inns receive preferential taxation treatment. In addition to non-uniform local tax rates, there are special legal exemptions that specifically assist facilities' investments geared towards promoting international visitor stays.
