Summary

LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) have been in service in various countries in Asia not to mention in Europe and the United States, and the proportion of LCCs in world-wide aviation market is increasing each year. In the domestic aviation market in Japan, it has been two years since LCCs started their operations in 2012, and some meaningful data useful for analyzing the influence of LCC’s entry have been available. This study investigates the impact of LCC’s entry into the Japanese aviation market utilizing such data.

This study mainly consists of the following four subjects.

・Impact of LCC’s entry into air routes (analysis based on statistical data, etc.)
Quantitative analysis of the impact of LCC’s entry into air routes was conducted based on public statistical data, data from airline websites, and traffic data complied by OAG, etc.

・Actual usage study of LCCs (analysis based on passenger questionnaire)
Web-based questionnaire survey was conducted to study the actual usage situation of LCCs.
The questionnaire targeted travelers who have had the experience of using LCCs, and travelers who have used FSCs (Full Service Carriers), railways and expressway buses in the routes where LCC service was available.

・The analysis of the influence of LCC’s entry on other modes of transportation
