Summary
In Japan, policy discussions and examinations on MaaS (Mobility as a Service) have begun, as you can find specific description on initiatives related to MaaS in the priority areas of “Investments for the Future Strategy 2018”. This research has been conducted since FY 2018 with a two-year plan, for the purpose of compiling a basic document as a reference in making efforts to realize new mobility services, by grasping trends of MaaS as well as researching promotive measures to be taken, problems and expected effects.
In FY 2018, we conducted a literature survey of situations on development of MaaS-related businesses, their effects and issues as well as the role of administration etc. in other countries. Then, we undertook on-cite surveys, taking EU policies into consideration, in Finland, Sweden, Germany, UK and Denmark, as we had learned that MaaS had been introduced or examined precedingly in those countries. In addition, information was collected on current comparative trends in Japan.
