● Research themes
Research themes for this year are as follows.
◆Research Study on Regional Development Methods to Prepare for Flood Disasters based on Regional Characteristics
The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to promote regional development with flood disaster preparedness that incorporates regional characteristics. By using Flood Hazard Map and other resources, we will explore regional characteristics in the high-risk flood areas, including resident features and historical land use changes, as well as public-private collaboration initiatives executed in different regions.
◆Research Study on Organizational Safety Management of Transport Companies
With the aim of incorporating new considerations regarding safety, we will improve the corporate safety culture measurement tool to make it easily accessible even for small and medium-sized businesses. By widely distributing the improved tool and encouraging its use, we will establish it as foundational insights contributing to Japan’s future transportation safety.
◆Research Study on the Latest Trends in Long-Distance Transport Infrastructure Policy under Green and Digital Transformation
In this study, we examine how other countries are approaching long-distance transportation infrastructure to align with their green transformation (GX) and digital transformation (DX) initiatives. By analyzing successful policies and frameworks from foreign cases, we aim to identify best practices that can inform future policymaking for Japan’s long-distance transport infrastructure.
◆Research Study on the Promotion of Decarbonization Projects through Overseas Development of Infrastructure Systems
This study aims to provide basic data that would contribute to the promotion of decarbonization projects in the international market. Based on analysis of decarbonization policies and programs in the target countries, potential demands and challenges will be examined and analyzed to promote Japanese corporations to secure new projects.
◆Research Study on Maritime and Airspace Use as Overall Operations Increase with the Spread of Autonomous Control
This study aims to develop foundational insights contributing to Japan’s future maritime and airspace use by reviewing regulations and systems governing the use of maritime and airspace areas and investigating user coordination cases that could serve as references for Japan.
◆Research Study on Community Development for the Realization of Inclusive Society
This study will provide basic data on community development to accelerate realization of inclusive society, through examination of efforts that create local community hubs using available real estate assets, and efforts that ensure safe housing and migration for Persons Requiring Special Assistance in Securing Housing.
◆Research Study on Mobility Policies Addressing the Needs of Diverse Stakeholders, Including Younger Generations
This study aims to develop foundational insights to inform future mobility policy in Japan by examining conventional transport modes and alternative transport modes - such as active mobility (cycling and walking) and practical micromobility options - that can effectively respond to the mobility needs of diverse groups, including young people, parents with children, and women. These groups have often been underrepresented in traditional transport policy discussions.
