Cumulative shipment of car navigation units in Japan since 1992 reached 6.20 million by the end of September 2000. Car navigation units are now provided as an option for most new cars. There are now more built-in car navigation units than those installed afterwards, and it is becoming a standard automobile equipment. One of the factors behind the rapid popularization of car navigation systems is the wide range of car navigation systems.
