ITS on-board units are capable of providing various media services, such as providing information via voice and images using DSRC and roadside units, Internet connectivity, and information via infrared beacons, as well as services available today, such as ETC and VICS. The Outlines of Innovating Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which were announced in May 2007, states the need of installing ITS on-board units to vehicles as standard equipment because the units will enable services provided through various communication media to be organically integrated and vehicles to be authenticated.
