As a result of negotiations in the GATT-Uruguay Round that was started in 1986, the "Marrakech agreement to establish the World Trade Organization" took effect in January 1995, and the WTO started to develop the world multi-directional trade system. The WTO intends for not only the liberalization of the trade of goods, but also for areas including traffic, sightseeing, and construction-related services. The Ministry of land, Infrastructure and Transport positively participates in discussion.
The FTA and EPA contribute to the security of the development of foreign economic relations and the economic profit to supplement and strengthen the WTO while globalization of the economy advances. Japan promotes the FTA and EPA conclusions.
