Earthquake Disaster Relief Plan Project, Romania
(Technical cooperation project)
Romania has been struck by many earthquakes
historically. The ministry is going to carry out technology transfer
centering on seismic technology, including assessing earthquake-proof
reinforcement in order to reduce damage from buildings falling during
earthquakes. |

Kenya Institute of Surveying and Mapping (KISM)
Project
(Project-type technical cooperation)
MLIT has assisted the construction of
KISM for survey and mapping engineers in Nairobi and has trained lecturers
to develop survey and mapping engineers in Kenya. Now, MLIT is assisting
implementation of third country training course to assist educational
programs to improve the level of surveyors in East Africa. |

The reconstruction and public traffic
plans for southwestern Kabul, Afghanistan (Development study)
MLIT will formulate a reconstruction and public traffic
plan for Kabul, which has been ruined over a long period of wars.
These plans will lay the foundation for infrastructure improvement
in the land, infrastructure and transport fields including road and
bus transportation networks, which will lead to reconstructing sound
economic activities in the nation. |

Agno River Flood Control Project, Philippines
(Loan aid)
Catchment area of the Agno River, located in central
Luzon island. Causes seasonal flood disasters. The ministry is going
to support a river improvement project and a basin protection improvement
project so that the living and sanitary environments of people dwelling
along the river can be improved. |

Sindhuli Road, Nepal
(Grant aid)
Sindhuli Road links the Terai Plain, the major agricultural
area in Nepal, and Katmandu, the capital. In the rainy season, however,
there is danger of landslides, and the road cannot be used. This improvement
project will enable people to use the road throughout the year. |

Comprehensive Disaster Prevention Project of
Volcanic Regions, Indonesia
(Project-type technical cooperation)
MLIT has been promoting technical cooperation centering
on local people. The cooperation includes applying the experience
and knowledge of local people; monitoring and evacuation initiated
by local people; forming a disaster prevention project model jointly
promoted by local people and administration, such as facility maintenance
and administration, by local people; educational programs for engineers
in cooperation with university-related institutions; and holding seminars
to educate local people. |

Controlling the Environment in Bua Nabara Bay
and improvement survey, Brazil(Development study)
Bua Nabara Bay, surrounded by beautiful scenery, is the
symbol of Rio de Janeiro. The bay has suffered from deteriorating
water quality. The ministry is going to formulate a water quality
control plan by controlling the sewage system in the city. |
