Results of 8th APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting (TMM8)

Please see below for details of the 8th APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Transportation Ministerial Meeting.

Akihiro Ohta, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan co-chaired the meeting with Evert Erenst Mangindaan, the Minister of Transportation of Indonesia. The results are as follows.

* Women in Transportation Forum
A forum hosted by the United States with participation from public and private sectors that examined policies and practices to increase women's participation in transportation professions, as well as outlining strategies for continued collaboration on the advancement of this important issue.  
 
* Business Forum.
With the themes of the Ministerial Meeting in mind, business leaders from both Japan and abroad met to discuss the roles of the public and private sectors, and proposals to the government.

4. Results

Under the main theme of “Enhancing Connectivity* by ‘High-Quality Transportation’ in the APEC Region,” presentations and discussions were made by the Ministers and other participants. The Ministerial Joint Statement was adopted as a result of the meeting.
 
* “Connectivity” means physical and institutional connection within the APEC region to promote the free flow of people, goods and capital. This is one of the priorities of this year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
 
   Key Elements of the Ministerial Joint Statement
      1.  To develop a transportation “Connectivity Map” that will visualize the ideal transportation network within the APEC region to be reached by the year 2020. 
      2.  To further cooperation and sharing of best practices regarding transportation infrastructure investment, financing and operations in each economy.
      3.  To develop a “Quality Transport” vision, encompassing convenience, efficiency, safety, security, and sustainability as priorities.
