(Present Conditions of Marine Pollution and its Prevention)


@ @ The incidence of marine pollution on the adjacent sea of Japan for 1974 was recognized by Maritime Safety Agency to be 2,366 cases, extending the high level over 2000 since 1972. To cope with high incidence of marine pollution, maritime safety agency has been continuing its efforts to strengthen the system of watch and control by promoting the equipping of patrol ships and boats, and airplanes, as well as providing waste oil desposal facilities over the country for disposing waste oil originating within ships. When the like of tankers met accidents with massive leak of oil, etc., on to the sea, Maritime Safety Agency used to undertake the task of its disposal and elimination. However it is necessary to establish the emergency system by which there can be concerted counter-actions as joined by both public and private sector including the company related to t: he accident.
