‡@@@Jet planes have been introduced in increasing numbers into the routes between local airports and the Metropolitan area, and between remote islands and the mainland (Fig. 6).

‡C@@To heighten the comfort and convenience of passengers, air-conditioned coaches have been introduced in increasing numbers (Fig. 8), bus lanes have been created (Fig. 9), and train congestion has been alleviated through increased investment in railway systems.

‡E@@Freight transport, including the distribution of goods, has been sped up. Particularly, the time required for the delivery of goods by truck has been substantially cut in the areas covered by highspeed motorways (Fig. 10).
