THE NARITA AIRPORT ROUNDTABLE CONFERENCE CONCLUDED (October 11, 1994)


@ @ Following the conclusion reached by the "Symposium for Narita Airport Issues", the "Narita Airport Roundtable Conference" has been established and meetings have been held to discuss and seek ways for both the local community and the airport to co-exist in harmony since September 1993. At the 12th meeting of the Conference held in October 1994, Sumiya Study Group presented a final view based on the previous discussions, which was accepted by all the members of the Conference. As a result, the following conclusion was reached.
@ @ The Conference reached an agreement that Narita Airport should be improved following democratic procedures. Thus, the antagonism over Narita Airport was cleared up and the airport entered a new phaze.
It was decided that the parties concerned will try to carry out the conclusion reached by the Conference, respecting it to the full, and make utmost efforts to solve the issues, such as land acquisition and relocation due to noise, by discussing the matters with sincerity and good faith following the democratic procedures agreed on by the Conference. It was also agreed to make positive efforts to improve Narita Airport so that the local community and the airport can coexist peacefully.
