The Ministry is making efforts are being made to promote domestic tourism which is not popular compared with overseas traveling. Such efforts aiming to create attractive tourist destinations include : linking of the local community and the tourist industry through the establishment of the Domestic Tourism Promotion Conference, and holding of Prefectual Tourism Promotion Conference at the Regional level (Fig. 36) and Tabi (Travel) Fair'96 ; protection and utilization of tourism resources ; and developing recreation facilities such as camping sites for family use, and parks or open-air spaces for international exchange and communications.
