Section 1 Promotion of Comprehensive Measures Toward the Creation of Safe Automobile Society

　 　　The Ministry of Transport has instructed the Council for Transport Technology to consider future automobile transportation policy giving consideration to safety and environmental conservation. It has also been promoting automobile transportation safety measures through the development of Advanced Safety Vehicles (ASV) and automobile safety information services (Figure 53), etc.

Section 2 Ensuring Transportation Services Meeting Needs of Passengers

　 　　The Ministry will address the problems involving buses, taxis, and trucks, while promoting deregulation to meet passengers' needs that are being upgraded and diversified. It also plans to expand subsidies for comprehensive bus promotion projects (e.g. the Omnibus Town Project) (Figure 54).

Section 3 Toward Promotion of Intelligent Transportation Systems

　 　　The Ministry will promote the intelligent transportation systems to facilitate transportation through the improvement of road traffic safety and transportation efficiency, relaxation of road traffic congestion, and other effects.
