MORITA Keiji  Kagawa Marine Litter Leader(Kagawa Prefectural Coastal Debris Countermeasure Activity Promoter)

MORITA Keiji

A beautiful ocean starts right here in Setouchi

Hello! My name is MORITA Keiji.

Born and raised in Takamatsu, I returned here at the age of 30 to run a business and to engage in activities related to Seto Inland Sea such as Satoumi Guide (promoting the charm of Seto) and marine debris disposal.

I agree with others that the enchantment of Takamatsu lies in Seto Inland Sea.

You may take an evening walk along the waterfront, or take a short ferry trip to the islands of art – Ogijima and Megijima. Perhaps, many people like fishing since their childhood. Yacht population is growing, and I also enjoy going sailing.

You can spend hours just sitting on a bench in the Takamatsu Port and watching as ships come and go, or enjoying the view of the calm sea.

But it is also true that now you see much more plastic and other marine litter than I saw when I was a child. A lot of trash drifts to Ogijima and Megijima, Yashima and other shores; the trawl fishermen are lamenting about abundance of sea bottom trash.

Thus, in cooperation with residents of Kagawa Prefecture and Takamatsu City, we are fostering “Kagawa Marine Litter Leaders” to deal with the sea litter, holding “beach cleanup” events in various locations, delivering field lectures on marine litter to elementary and secondary schools. These activities are quite intense even in the nationwide context.
Recently, we have launched eco tours and study tours that combine beach cleanup with environmental learning as a tourism resource.

“A beautiful ocean starts right here in Setouchi.”

Thinking of future children, we are determined to continue maintaining environmental well-being of Seto Inland Sea and enhancing the appeal of Takamatsu.
