Study on maintenance and revitalization of local public transport in regional cities(Report No.120)
Summary
In regional cities in Japan, public transport service has been discontinued on many routes, due to a decrease in the number of public transport users.
On the other hand in Europe and the United States, the share of public transport and the number of passengers carried by public transport have remained unchanged or have been slightly increasing in recent years, especially with the significant expansion of tram networks.
Under these circumstances, issues of local public transport in regional cities in Japan were examined, and overseas case studies were conducted on informative systems and advanced cases to investigate how such issues are addressed in Europe and the United States.
